We have the vision, understand the dangers and have identified the opportunities the migration to IP represents. We will work with you to help bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
Why is it important that SAM adopts open industry standards?
At SAM, we recognize the importance of adopting an open approach to IP development. Wherever possible, we integrate open standards in our products and systems. Furthermore, our IP teams are actively engaged with several leading industry bodies looking at this dynamic area of technology development. These organizations include:
AIMS – A group of like-minded manufacturers who would prefer to agree open common standards rather than have a fractured standards landscape. AIMS members support the following standards organizations:
VSF – The video services forum is a user group oriented around interoperability in networked media. This is the body around which the TR-03 and TR-04 standards have been created.
SMPTE – The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is the main standards body in North America and an influential one worldwide.
EBU – The main European standards body for broadcasters and is assisting the collaborative efforts in IP standardization.
""We were looking for future proof open standards based IP interfacing with minimal technical or business risk and found it in SAM’s IP-Edge."" Peter Bruggink, CTO, NEP The Netherlands
The result of a major development initiative at SAM has led to the development of IP-Edge.
IP-Edge is more than a system solution or a group of products. IP-Edge is a technology that interfaces to all relevant SAM products. It fundamentally influences the way that SAM products work together within an IP environment.
SAM products that are IP-Edge enabled work with each other over IP. They will also interface with products from other manufacturers that are open IP standards compliant.
IP-Edge systems enable combined IP and SDI routing control. IP-Edge transport standards are open and common between SAM and other manufacturers that adhere to the Video Services Forum TR-03 and TR-04 standards. However, IP-Edge also encompasses SAM control and monitoring plus non-proprietary video signal compression systems.
